Hard or Soft Window Treatments ?

Hard window treatments are window coverings made from hard materials, such as plastic, vinyl, or wood. Some examples of
hard window treatments are blinds, roller shades, and plantation shutters.

Soft window treatments are window coverings made from fabrics which are then sewn. Some examples of soft window
treatments are valances, sheers, panels, drapes, curtains, swags, and roman shades.

In order for a room to look balanced, both hard and soft surfaces should be used. If hard window treatments are on the
windows, then other soft surfaces should be in the room to balance the look.

Soft and hard window treatments may be combined for style and privacy. Windows should have at least one privacy layer, such
as a shade, blind, shutter, or traversing panel. Many homeowners decide that the room needs more softness and color a few
years after installing hard window treatments for privacy.

Plantation shutters require a larger clearance than most other hard window coverings, to allow the shutters to open and close.
